I feel the urge to tell every Arab and non-Arab who is uncomfortable from what is happening in Egypt or maybe in disagreement with it; to disagree does not mean that you speak against it or even negatively judge what is happening without hearing the story from those on the ground.  The least I can ask of you is to respect the WISH of the majority of Egyptian Youth and People who are jeopardizing their lives daily to ensure a dignified life for themselves, their country and the generations to come; this is at least what they have chosen.

I would like for this note to also reach those who are interested and/or in agreement with the Egyptians’ uprising and hope that some of you can circulate it to others so that we are all aware of what is happening on the ground.

A good majority of Egyptians and some non-Egyptians all over Egypt are acting honourably and showing a great deal of responsibility towards their situation.  Since the very first day, Tuesday January 25 2011 “the day of anger”, which I have witnessed with my own eyes in Cairo, Egyptians have chosen to protest peacefully while chanting “peacefully, peacefully; a day of anger not a day of violence” in response to police brutality and aggression.

Six days ago, the Egyptians decided to stand up and protest against oppression and poverty and to demand their rights peacefully.  In sequence to conditions that have fallen the country especially after the unjustified disappearance of the security and police forces (said to be planned and organized), the people of Egypt had formed popular neighbourhood committees to protect citizens, neighbourhoods  shops, museums and all other public properties being the properties of theirs and their country.

Many of the armed individuals and looters captured by the people and by the Army forces were from the police and security forces.  Further, the people also played a critical role in capturing many of the prisoners who escaped their jails and handed them to the Army.

I am directly in touch with a good number of young people in Egypt as well as many other Egyptians and non-Egyptians including representatives of International Organizations as well as other development and cultural institutions and they are all feeding me with the same information:

"We are proud, very proud to be witnessing and living what is happening.  The people are in the streets and determined; the uprising is not supported by any official side or entity, not political neither factional nor religious, it is rather driven by the WILL of Egyptian youth and people.

The vandalization and the looting you are witnessing and we are living in Egypt today, obviously, is quite systematic and organized by those with interest to abort the uprising, exhaust the people and to continue to sabotage the country more and more.  These are for sure not the same people who have paid their blood over years to stay alive, eye witness, participate and sacrifice their lives for what is happening and what will come.

We are in the street, in neighbourhoods  with the people and for Egypt and shall stay where we are till a real change come through; a change that is worth all what had happened to Egypt throughout the last 30 years, equal to all that is happening in the streets these days and that ensures dignity and freedom to the Egyptian People.”
